1st Armoured Medical Regiment

1st Armoured Medical Regiment is a unit of the British Army that provides medical support to the 1st (United Kingdom) Division. The regiment is part of the Royal Army Medical Corps and is based at Bhurtpore Barracks, Tidworth Camp.

The 1st Armoured Medical Regiment was formed in 1993 as part of the restructuring of the British Army's medical services. It was created by amalgamating the 4th Armoured Medical Regiment and the 22nd Field Ambulance. The regiment has been deployed on several operations since its formation, including in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Role[edit | edit source]

The primary role of the 1st Armoured Medical Regiment is to provide medical support to the 1st (United Kingdom) Division. This includes providing immediate medical care on the battlefield, as well as evacuation and treatment of casualties. The regiment is equipped with a variety of vehicles and equipment to carry out its role, including armoured ambulances and field hospitals.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The 1st Armoured Medical Regiment is made up of several squadrons, each with a specific role. These include a Headquarters Squadron, which provides command and control, and three Medical Squadrons, which provide medical support. Each Medical Squadron is made up of several Medical Troops, which are the basic operational units of the regiment.

Training[edit | edit source]

Soldiers in the 1st Armoured Medical Regiment receive specialist medical training in addition to their basic military training. This includes training in battlefield medicine, casualty evacuation, and the use of medical equipment. The regiment also conducts regular exercises to maintain its readiness for deployment.
