2C-YN is a lesser-known psychedelic phenethylamine of the 2C family. It was first synthesized by the chemist Alexander Shulgin and described in his book PiHKAL (Phenethylamines I Have Known And Loved).

Chemical Structure[edit | edit source]

2C-YN, or 2,5-dimethoxy-4-(2-propynyl)phenethylamine, has the chemical formula C12H15NO2. It is structurally related to other compounds in the 2C series, such as 2C-B, 2C-I, and 2C-E. The defining feature of 2C-YN is the presence of a propynyl group at the 4-position of the phenyl ring.

Synthesis[edit | edit source]

The synthesis of 2C-YN involves the alkylation of 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde with propargyl bromide, followed by reduction to the corresponding alcohol, and then conversion to the amine via reductive amination. The detailed synthesis process is documented in PiHKAL.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacological properties of 2C-YN are not well-documented. It is presumed to act as a serotonin receptor agonist, similar to other compounds in the 2C series. The effects of 2C-YN on the human body and mind are largely unknown due to the lack of scientific studies.

Effects[edit | edit source]

According to anecdotal reports, 2C-YN produces psychedelic effects similar to other 2C compounds, including visual distortions, altered perception of time, and changes in thought patterns. However, the potency, duration, and safety profile of 2C-YN are not well-established.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 2C-YN varies by country. In some jurisdictions, it may be considered a controlled substance due to its structural similarity to other regulated 2C compounds. It is important to check local laws and regulations before possessing or using 2C-YN.
