3-Methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG) is a metabolite of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. It is primarily found in the cerebrospinal fluid, blood plasma, and urine. MHPG is used as a marker for the activity of the noradrenergic system in the central nervous system.

MHPG is produced through the metabolic breakdown of norepinephrine. The process involves several enzymatic steps, including the action of monoamine oxidase and catechol-O-methyltransferase. The resulting compound, MHPG, is then excreted from the body.
