4′-Fluorococaine

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

4′-Fluorococaine is a tropane derivative drug which is a synthetic analogue of cocaine. Unlike related compounds such as the corresponding 4′-fluorophenyltropane derivative CFT and the 2′-hydroxy analogue salicylmethylecgonine, 4′-fluorococaine has only around the same potency as cocaine as an inhibitor of dopamine reuptake, but conversely it is a much stronger serotonin reuptake inhibitor than cocaine, resulting in a significantly altered pharmacological profile in animal studies.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

4′-Fluorococaine is a fluorinated derivative of cocaine. It belongs to the class of tropane alkaloids. The fluorine atom at the 4′ position on the aromatic ring enhances the serotonin reuptake inhibition potency of the molecule.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacological profile of 4′-Fluorococaine is primarily a potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor, with a secondary action as an inhibitor of dopamine reuptake. This differs significantly from cocaine which is a potent dopamine reuptake inhibitor with a lesser effect on serotonin levels.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 4′-Fluorococaine largely mirror those of cocaine in terms of stimulant, euphoric, and anesthetic properties. However, the enhanced serotonin activity produces a slightly different side effect profile, and the potency and duration of effects can be different due to variations in dose and individual metabolism.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 4′-Fluorococaine varies by country, and it may be controlled under analogue laws in countries such as the United States. It is always advisable to check the legal status in your own country before possession or distribution.
