Abney

Abney is a village and civil parish in the English county of Derbyshire. It is located in the Peak District, and is part of the district of the High Peak. The village is known for its picturesque setting and its historical significance.

The village of Abney was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was listed as 'Habenai', a name believed to be of Old English origin. The village has a rich history, with many of its buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

Abney is located in the northeastern part of Derbyshire, in the heart of the Peak District. It is surrounded by rolling hills and moorland, and is known for its scenic beauty. The village is located near the town of Hathersage, and is within easy reach of the cities of Sheffield and Manchester.

As of the 2011 Census, the population of Abney was 177. The village has a mix of residents, including families, retirees, and individuals who commute to nearby cities for work.

Abney has several notable landmarks, including the Abney Hall, a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 17th century. The village is also home to the Abney Methodist Chapel, which was built in 1812 and is still in use today.
