Actuate Actuate Corporation was a software company that specialized in business intelligence (BI) and enterprise reporting tools. Founded in 1993, Actuate was known for its development of the BIRT Project (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools), an open-source software project within the Eclipse Foundation.

Actuate Corporation was founded by Pete Cittadini, Steve Jones, and Bud Michael in 1993. The company went public in 1998 and was listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol ACTU. Actuate's headquarters were located in San Mateo, California.

Actuate's primary product offerings included:

  • ActuateOne: A suite of integrated BI and reporting tools designed to provide users with the ability to create, manage, and deliver rich information applications.
  • BIRT: An open-source software project that provides a powerful reporting and business intelligence framework for web applications, especially those based on Java and Java EE.

The BIRT Project was initiated by Actuate in 2004 and became a top-level project within the Eclipse Foundation. BIRT is widely used for creating data visualizations and reports that can be embedded into rich client and web applications.

In 2015, Actuate was acquired by OpenText Corporation, a Canadian company that specializes in enterprise information management (EIM) software. The acquisition allowed OpenText to enhance its analytics and reporting capabilities by integrating Actuate's technology into its own product offerings.
