Adalat cc
Adalat CC is a brand name for the generic drug Nifedipine, a type of calcium channel blocker used primarily in the treatment of hypertension and angina. It is manufactured by Bayer AG, a multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Adalat CC works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, thus preventing muscle contraction and decreasing peripheral vascular resistance. This results in dilation of the main coronary and systemic arteries, increasing oxygen delivery to the myocardial tissue and reducing total peripheral resistance, systemic blood pressure, and afterload.
Indications[edit | edit source]
Adalat CC is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure, and to treat angina (chest pain). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Adalat CC include headache, dizziness, flushing, and nausea. Serious side effects are rare, but may include fainting, slow heartbeat, and shortness of breath.
Dosage[edit | edit source]
The dosage of Adalat CC is individualized according to the patient's needs and response to treatment. It is typically taken orally once daily, with or without food.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Adalat CC may interact with other medications, including beta blockers, digoxin, and quinidine. It is important for patients to inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking.
Precautions[edit | edit source]
Before taking Adalat CC, patients should inform their healthcare provider if they have any history of heart disease, liver disease, or kidney disease. It should be used with caution in the elderly and those with a history of cardiac conditions.
