Aircel Comics
Aircel Comics was a Canadian comic book publisher founded in the mid-1980s. It was known for producing a variety of comic book series, many of which gained a cult following. The company was eventually acquired by Malibu Comics in the early 1990s.
History[edit | edit source]
Aircel Comics was established by Barry Blair, who was also one of the primary artists and writers for the company. The company initially started as a division of Aircel Insulation, a company that was facing financial difficulties. To keep the business afloat, Blair and his team began producing comic books.
Notable Series[edit | edit source]
Aircel Comics published several notable series, including:
- Samurai - A series that combined elements of martial arts and science fiction.
- Dragonring - A fantasy series that followed the adventures of a young hero in a mystical world.
- Men in Black - A series about secret agents dealing with extraterrestrial threats, which later inspired the popular film franchise.
- Warlock 5 - A series that blended science fiction and fantasy, featuring five powerful beings from different dimensions.
Acquisition by Malibu Comics[edit | edit source]
In the early 1990s, Aircel Comics was acquired by Malibu Comics. This acquisition allowed Aircel's titles to reach a broader audience and provided additional resources for production and distribution. Many of Aircel's popular series continued under the Malibu Comics banner until Malibu itself was acquired by Marvel Comics in 1994.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Aircel Comics is remembered for its unique blend of genres and its contribution to the comic book industry during the 1980s and early 1990s. The company's innovative storytelling and distinctive art style have left a lasting impact on fans and creators alike.
