Alcon is a global medical company specializing in eye care products. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, Alcon has a presence in over 70 countries and serves patients in more than 140. The company's mission is to provide innovative products that enhance quality of life by helping people see better.

Alcon was founded in 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas, by pharmacists Robert Alexander and William Conner. The name "Alcon" is derived from the contraction of the founders' surnames, "Al" from Alexander and "Con" from Conner. The company initially focused on creating high-quality ophthalmic products to meet the needs of eye care professionals and patients.
Products and Services[edit | edit source]
Alcon's product portfolio is divided into two main segments: Surgical and Vision Care. The Surgical segment includes technologies and devices for cataract, retinal, glaucoma, and refractive surgery, as well as advanced technology intraocular lenses (ATIOLs) to treat cataracts and refractive errors, like presbyopia and astigmatism. The Vision Care segment comprises contact lenses and lens care products, including multi-purpose solutions, hydrogen peroxide cleaning and disinfecting solution, and daily cleaner.

Alcon invests heavily in research and development (R&D) to drive innovation in eye care. The company collaborates with scientists, clinicians, and other industry partners worldwide to develop new and improved solutions for eye health.
