Alexander Keith Marshall
Alexander Keith Marshall (1808 – 1884) was an American politician and lawyer from Kentucky. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives and served as a representative for Kentucky's 8th congressional district.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Alexander Keith Marshall was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, in 1808. He was a member of the prominent Marshall family, which included his uncle, John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. Marshall pursued classical studies and graduated from Yale College in 1827. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar, beginning his practice in Lexington, Kentucky.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Marshall was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress, serving from March 4, 1853, to March 3, 1855. During his term, he was known for his support of the Compromise of 1850 and his opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act. After his term in Congress, he returned to his law practice.
Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]
After his political career, Marshall continued to practice law in Kentucky. He remained active in local politics and was a respected figure in his community. Alexander Keith Marshall died in 1884 and was buried in the Lexington Cemetery.

Marshall's contributions to Kentucky's political landscape and his connection to the influential Marshall family have made him a notable figure in American history. His career reflects the political tensions and transformations of the mid-19th century United States.
