Alexander Zverev

Alexander "Sascha" Zverev (born 20 April 1997) is a German professional tennis player. He has been ranked by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) as high as world No. 3 and has been a permanent fixture in the top 10 since July 2017. Zverev has won multiple ATP titles, including the 2018 and 2021 ATP Finals, and has reached the final of the 2020 US Open.

Zverev was born in Hamburg, Germany, to Russian parents. His father, Alexander Zverev Sr., was a professional tennis player for the Soviet Union, and his mother, Irina Zvereva, was also a tennis player. His older brother, Mischa Zverev, is also a professional tennis player.

Junior Career[edit | edit source]

Zverev had a successful junior career, reaching the No. 1 ranking in the world. He won the 2014 Australian Open junior title and was a finalist at the 2013 French Open junior event.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

Zverev turned professional in 2013. He won his first ATP title at the 2016 St. Petersburg Open. In 2017, he won five ATP titles, including two ATP Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Montreal.

In 2018, Zverev won the ATP Finals, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. He repeated this success in 2021, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. Zverev reached his first Grand Slam final at the 2020 US Open, where he lost to Dominic Thiem in a five-set match.

Zverev is known for his powerful serve and strong baseline play. He has a versatile game, capable of playing both offensive and defensive tennis. His two-handed backhand is considered one of the best in the game.

Zverev resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco. He is fluent in German, Russian, and English. Off the court, he enjoys playing basketball and golf.
