Alija Alijagić was a Bosnian revolutionary and a member of the Yugoslav Communist Party. He is best known for his assassination of Milorad Drašković, the Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, in 1921.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Alija Alijagić was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the late 19th century. Little is known about his early life, but he became politically active in his youth, joining the Yugoslav Communist Party.

Political Activities[edit | edit source]

Alijagić was deeply involved in the revolutionary activities of the Yugoslav Communist Party. The party aimed to overthrow the monarchy and establish a communist state. Alijagić was known for his radical views and commitment to the cause.

Assassination of Milorad Drašković[edit | edit source]

On July 21, 1921, Alijagić assassinated Milorad Drašković, the Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Drašković was a prominent figure in the government and was responsible for the suppression of communist activities. The assassination took place in Delnice, a town in modern-day Croatia.

Trial and Execution[edit | edit source]

Following the assassination, Alijagić was arrested and put on trial. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. Alijagić was executed in 1922. His actions and subsequent execution made him a martyr in the eyes of many communists and revolutionaries.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Alija Alijagić remains a controversial figure in the history of the Balkans. While some view him as a hero who fought against oppression, others see him as a terrorist. His assassination of Drašković had significant political repercussions and contributed to the further polarization of the region.
