American Horror Story: Double Feature is the tenth season of the FX horror anthology television series American Horror Story, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The season premiered on August 25, 2021, and concluded on October 20, 2021. It consists of ten episodes and is divided into two parts: "Red Tide" and "Death Valley".

Plot[edit | edit source]

The season is split into two distinct stories. The first part, "Red Tide," follows a struggling writer named Harry Gardner who moves with his family to the coastal town of Provincetown, Massachusetts. There, he encounters a mysterious pill that enhances his creativity but comes with a deadly cost. The second part, "Death Valley," shifts to a desert setting and explores an alien conspiracy spanning several decades.

Red Tide[edit | edit source]

"Red Tide" centers on Harry Gardner, his pregnant wife Doris, and their daughter Alma. As Harry's career begins to flourish due to the effects of the mysterious pill, the family faces increasingly bizarre and dangerous situations. The town of Provincetown is revealed to harbor dark secrets and a community of individuals who have also taken the pill, leading to a series of horrifying events.

Death Valley[edit | edit source]

"Death Valley" follows a group of college students who uncover a government conspiracy involving extraterrestrial beings. The story alternates between the present day and flashbacks to the 1950s, revealing the origins of the alien presence on Earth and the government's attempts to cover it up.

Cast[edit | edit source]

The season features an ensemble cast, including returning actors Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, and Frances Conroy. Newcomers to the series include Macaulay Culkin and Neal McDonough.

Production[edit | edit source]

The season was announced on May 11, 2020, by FX. Filming was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but eventually resumed with safety protocols in place. The unique structure of the season, being split into two parts, was a first for the series and was intended to offer a fresh narrative approach.

Reception[edit | edit source]

"American Horror Story: Double Feature" received mixed to positive reviews from critics. "Red Tide" was praised for its atmospheric setting and strong performances, while "Death Valley" received criticism for its convoluted plot but was noted for its ambitious storytelling.

Episodes[edit | edit source]

The season consists of ten episodes, divided equally between the two parts, "Red Tide" and "Death Valley."
