American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is a professional organization of physicians dedicated to the study and practice of anesthesiology. Founded in 1905, the ASA is committed to ensuring the highest standards of the profession and promoting excellence in patient care.

The ASA was established in 1905 as the Long Island Society of Anesthetists (LISA). It was renamed the American Society of Anesthetists in 1936, and finally became the American Society of Anesthesiologists in 1945. The society has played a significant role in the development of anesthesia as a recognized medical specialty.

The mission of the ASA is to advance the practice and secure the future of anesthesiology by promoting the highest standards of patient care, education, research, and advocacy.
