American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is a professional organization of physicians dedicated to the study and practice of anesthesiology. Founded in 1905, the ASA is committed to ensuring the highest standards of the profession and promoting excellence in patient care.

The ASA was established in 1905 as the Long Island Society of Anesthetists (LISA). It was renamed the American Society of Anesthetists in 1936, and finally became the American Society of Anesthesiologists in 1945.
