Andrew J. Feustel

Andrew J. Feustel (born August 25, 1965) is an American geophysicist and a NASA astronaut. He has been involved in multiple space missions, including STS-125 and STS-134, and served as a crew member on the International Space Station (ISS).

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Feustel was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Solid Earth Sciences from Purdue University in 1989, and a Master of Science degree in Geophysics from Purdue University in 1991. He later received a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1995.

NASA career[edit | edit source]

Feustel was selected by NASA in July 2000. He completed two years of initial astronaut training and evaluation, and was qualified for flight assignment as a mission specialist. He first flew in May 2009 on STS-125, the final Space Shuttle mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. In May 2011, he flew on STS-134, the final mission of Space Shuttle Endeavour.

Feustel served as a flight engineer for Expedition 55 and took over as commander for Expedition 56, spending 197 days in space. During his time on the ISS, he conducted multiple spacewalks and contributed to scientific research and maintenance of the station.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Feustel is married and has two sons. He enjoys auto restoration, guitar, and sports. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America.
