Andrew R. Morgan
Andrew R. Morgan (born February 5, 1976) is a United States Army officer, physician, and NASA astronaut. He was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2013 and has since participated in various missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Andrew R. Morgan was born in Morgantown, West Virginia. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering in 1998. Following his graduation, Morgan attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he received a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2002.
Military Career[edit | edit source]
Morgan began his military career as a medical officer in the United States Army. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center and later served as a flight surgeon. Morgan has been deployed in support of various military operations, including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
NASA Career[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Morgan was selected as a NASA astronaut as part of Astronaut Group 21. He completed his astronaut training in 2015, which included scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in ISS systems, spacewalk training, robotics, T-38 flight training, and water and wilderness survival training.
Spaceflight Experience[edit | edit source]
Morgan launched to the ISS on July 20, 2019, aboard Soyuz MS-13. During his mission, he conducted several extravehicular activities (EVAs) and participated in numerous scientific experiments. He returned to Earth on April 17, 2020, after spending 272 days in space.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Andrew R. Morgan is married and has four children. He enjoys running, weightlifting, and outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing.
Awards and Honors[edit | edit source]
Morgan has received numerous awards and decorations throughout his career, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
