Anemone hybrida
Anemone hybrida is a species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. It is commonly known as the Japanese anemone or hybrid anemone. This plant is native to China, but it has been naturalized in Japan for centuries and is often associated with that country in the horticultural trade.
Description[edit | edit source]
Anemone hybrida is a perennial plant that typically grows to a height of 0.5–1 meter. The leaves are divided into three segments and are arranged alternately along the stem. The flowers, which appear in late summer and autumn, are 2–3 inches in diameter and can be pink, purple, or white. Each flower has five or more petal-like sepals that surround a central cluster of yellow stamens.
Cultivation[edit | edit source]
Anemone hybrida is a popular plant in temperate gardens. It prefers a sunny or partially shaded location and well-drained soil. The plant is propagated by division in spring or autumn. It is resistant to most pests and diseases, but can be affected by anemone smut, a fungal disease.
Varieties[edit | edit source]
Several cultivars of Anemone hybrida have been developed for garden use, including 'Honorine Jobert' (white flowers), 'September Charm' (pink flowers), and 'Prinz Heinrich' (deep pink flowers).
Uses[edit | edit source]
In addition to its use as an ornamental plant, Anemone hybrida has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for its purported health benefits.
