Anjem Choudary
Anjem Choudary (born 18 January 1967) is a British Islamist and social and political activist. He is a former solicitor and served as the spokesman for the Islamist group Islam4UK, which was proscribed under the Terrorism Act 2000 in January 2010. Choudary has been a controversial figure in the UK due to his outspoken views and activities, which have often brought him into conflict with the authorities.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Choudary was born in Welling, London, to a family of Pakistani descent. He attended Southampton University, where he initially studied medicine before switching to law. He later completed his legal studies at the University of Surrey.
Career[edit | edit source]
After qualifying as a solicitor, Choudary became involved in various Islamist groups. He co-founded the organization Al-Muhajiroun with Omar Bakri Muhammad in the 1990s. The group was known for its radical views and was banned in the UK in 2005.
Islam4UK[edit | edit source]
Choudary was the leader and spokesman for Islam4UK, an Islamist group that advocated for the implementation of Sharia law in the UK. The group was banned under the Terrorism Act 2000 in January 2010. Islam4UK was known for organizing provocative demonstrations and for its controversial statements.
Legal Issues[edit | edit source]
Choudary has had several run-ins with the law. In 2016, he was convicted of inviting support for the terrorist organization ISIS and was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. He was released on license in 2018 after serving half of his sentence.

Choudary is known for his radical views, including his support for the implementation of Sharia law in the UK and his praise for terrorist attacks. He has been a vocal critic of Western governments and has often been accused of inciting hatred and violence.

Choudary is married and has four children. He lives in Ilford, East London.
