Anna Johnson Gates
Anna Johnson Gates (January 25, 1889 – January 24, 1939) was an American politician and the first woman elected to the West Virginia Legislature. She was a member of the Democratic Party and served in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

Anna Johnson Gates was born on January 25, 1889, in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the daughter of John Johnson and Mary Johnson. She attended local schools in Charleston and later pursued higher education at the University of Charleston.

Gates began her political career as an advocate for women's rights and social reforms. She was actively involved in the women's suffrage movement and worked towards the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
