History[edit | edit source]

The area now known as Aquetong was originally inhabited by the Lenape people, who called the region "Aquetong," meaning "place of the pine trees." European settlers arrived in the 18th century, and the community developed around the natural resources and the Aquetong Creek.

In the 19th century, Aquetong was a thriving community with mills powered by the creek. The Aquetong Spring, a significant natural spring, was a vital water source and contributed to the area's development. The spring was dammed to create a mill pond, which was used to power a gristmill and other local industries.
