Archduchess Marie Anne of Austria (8 June 1804 – 28 December 1858) was a member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine and an Archduchess of Austria by birth. She was the daughter of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor and his second wife, Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Marie Anne was born on 8 June 1804 in Vienna, the capital of the Austrian Empire. She was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Francis II (later Francis I of Austria) and Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily. Her siblings included Ferdinand I of Austria, Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, and Archduchess Sophie of Austria.

Education and Interests[edit | edit source]

Marie Anne received a comprehensive education typical for a princess of her time, which included languages, history, and the arts. She was known for her intelligence and keen interest in the sciences, particularly botany and astronomy.

Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]

Marie Anne never married and spent much of her life involved in charitable activities and the promotion of the arts and sciences. She was particularly close to her sister, Archduchess Sophie of Austria, and often supported her in various endeavors.

Marie Anne died on 28 December 1858 in Vienna at the age of 54. She was buried in the Imperial Crypt in Vienna, the traditional burial place of the Habsburgs.
