Aristogenes (physician)
Aristogenes was an ancient Greek physician, who lived in the 4th century BC. He was a native of Thasos, and a pupil of Herodicus, who was himself a pupil of Hippocrates. Aristogenes is mentioned by Galen as one of the physicians who had written on the pulse.
Life[edit | edit source]
Aristogenes was born in Thasos, an island in the northern Aegean Sea. He was a student of Herodicus, a well-known physician of his time who was also a teacher of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Aristogenes' exact birth and death dates are unknown, but he is believed to have lived during the 4th century BC.
Work[edit | edit source]
Aristogenes' work primarily focused on the study of the pulse. His writings on the subject were referenced by Galen, a prominent physician, surgeon, and philosopher in the Roman Empire. However, the details of his work and his contributions to the field of medicine are not well-documented.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Despite the lack of detailed information about his work, Aristogenes' mention by Galen suggests that he was a respected figure in the field of medicine during his time. His study of the pulse likely contributed to the understanding of cardiovascular health in ancient medicine.
