Arrogate
Arrogate was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who is best known for his remarkable performances in some of the world's most prestigious horse races. Born on April 11, 2013, and passing on June 2, 2020, Arrogate was a grey colt who made a significant impact on the horse racing scene during his short career.
Early Life and Background[edit | edit source]
Arrogate was sired by Unbridled's Song, a well-known American Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. His dam was Bubbler, making his lineage one of interest to many in the horse racing community. Despite his impressive pedigree, Arrogate's early career did not hint at the success he would later achieve. He was trained by Bob Baffert, a Hall of Fame trainer known for preparing multiple Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winners.
Racing Career[edit | edit source]
Arrogate's racing career began without much fanfare, but he quickly rose to prominence in 2016. His breakout performance came in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, where he set a new track record. This victory was a turning point, showcasing his speed and stamina to the wider racing world.
Following the Travers Stakes, Arrogate went on to compete in several high-profile races. He won the 2016 Breeders' Cup Classic, defeating California Chrome, another celebrated racehorse of his time. In 2017, Arrogate continued his winning streak by securing victories in the Pegasus World Cup and the Dubai World Cup, two of the richest horse races globally. These wins not only added to his fame but also significantly increased his earnings, making him one of the highest-earning racehorses in history.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Arrogate's racing career was relatively short, as he retired in 2017. However, his impact on the sport was undeniable. He was recognized for his exceptional ability to maintain speed over long distances, a trait that made him a formidable competitor. His victories in the Travers Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic, Pegasus World Cup, and Dubai World Cup are often cited as some of the most impressive in recent horse racing history.
Despite his retirement, Arrogate's legacy continues through his offspring. As a sire, he has the potential to pass on his remarkable traits to future generations of racehorses.
Death[edit | edit source]
Arrogate passed away on June 2, 2020, due to complications from an illness. His death was a significant loss to the horse racing community, which remembered him as one of the greatest racehorses of his era.
Honors[edit | edit source]
Throughout his career, Arrogate received numerous accolades. He was named the World's Best Racehorse by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) in 2016 and 2017. His performances in major races left a lasting impression on fans and experts alike, cementing his place in horse racing history.
