Asprinio bianco
Asprinio bianco is a white Italian wine grape variety that is grown in the Campania region of southern Italy. The grape has a long history in the region and is believed to have been used in the production of Roman wine.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of Asprinio bianco are believed to date back to the Roman times. The grape is thought to have been one of the many grape varieties described by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia and was likely used in the production of ancient Roman wines.
Viticulture[edit | edit source]
Asprinio bianco is a difficult grape to cultivate. It is a high-yielding vine that requires a lot of care and attention. The grape is traditionally grown on Pergola trellises, which are tall, tree-like structures that allow the vines to climb up to 10-15 meters high. This method of cultivation, known as Alberata Aversana, is unique to the region and is considered a traditional agricultural practice.
Wine regions[edit | edit source]
Asprinio bianco is primarily grown in the Campania region of southern Italy, particularly in the provinces of Caserta and Naples. The grape is used to produce a variety of wines, including still, sparkling, and sweet wines. The most notable of these is the Asprinio di Aversa DOC, a dry white wine that is known for its high acidity and light body.
Wine styles[edit | edit source]
Wines made from Asprinio bianco are typically light-bodied with high acidity. They often have a pale straw color and a delicate, floral aroma. The flavor profile can vary depending on the winemaking techniques used, but common flavors include green apple, pear, and citrus.
Food pairing[edit | edit source]
Due to its high acidity and light body, Asprinio bianco wines are versatile when it comes to food pairing. They can be enjoyed on their own or paired with a variety of dishes, including seafood, poultry, and light pasta dishes.
