Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas. Austin is known for its vibrant live-music scene centered around country music, blues, and rock. The city is also home to many parks and lakes that are popular for hiking, biking, swimming, and boating.

Austin was originally settled in the 1830s along the Colorado River. It was named after Stephen F. Austin, the "Father of Texas" and the republic's first secretary of state. The city was chosen as the capital of the Republic of Texas in 1839 and incorporated in December of that year.
