The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) is a public research university located in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1883, it is the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. The university is known for its strong academic programs, vibrant campus life, and significant contributions to research and public service.

The University of Texas at Austin was established by the Texas Legislature in 1881, and its doors opened in 1883. The original campus consisted of 40 acres near downtown Austin. The university has grown significantly since its founding, now encompassing over 431 acres.
Academics[edit | edit source]
UT Austin offers more than 170 fields of study across 18 colleges and schools. It is particularly renowned for its programs in engineering, business, law, and the natural sciences. The university is classified as a "very high research activity" institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
