Axel Alonso
Axel Alonso is an American comic book editor and former Editor-in-Chief at Marvel Comics. He is known for his significant contributions to the comic book industry, particularly during his tenure at Marvel.

Axel Alonso was born on August 22, 1967, in San Francisco, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he earned a degree in sociology. He later pursued a master's degree in journalism at Columbia University.

Early Career[edit | edit source]
Alonso began his career in the comic book industry at DC Comics, where he worked as a Vertigo editor. During his time at Vertigo, he edited several notable titles, including 100 Bullets, Hellblazer, and Preacher.
Marvel Comics[edit | edit source]
In 2000, Alonso joined Marvel Comics as a senior editor. He quickly made a name for himself by overseeing popular titles such as X-Men, Spider-Man, and The Incredible Hulk. Alonso was instrumental in launching the critically acclaimed X-Statix series and revitalizing the X-Men franchise.
In 2011, Alonso was promoted to Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, succeeding Joe Quesada. During his tenure, he oversaw several major storylines and events, including Avengers vs. X-Men, Marvel NOW!, and Secret Wars. Alonso was known for his efforts to diversify Marvel's lineup, introducing new characters and promoting inclusive storytelling.
Post-Marvel Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving Marvel in 2017, Alonso co-founded AWA Studios (Artists, Writers & Artisans) with former Marvel executive Bill Jemas. AWA Studios aims to provide creators with more control over their work and has published several successful titles since its inception.
