- Baldwyn's history dates back to the 1800s, when it was originally known as Carrollville. After the Mobile and Ohio Railroad was built through the town in 1860, the name was changed to Baldwyn, in honor of the civil engineer who helped construct the railroad, Colonel T. S. Baldwyn.

- Baldwyn is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 45 and Mississippi Highway 370. The city covers a total area of 11.6 square miles, of which 11.5 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.
