Balloon modelling
Balloon modelling or balloon twisting is the shaping of special modelling balloons into almost any given shape, often a balloon animal. People who create balloon animals and other twisted balloon sculptures are called Twisters. Twisters often work as buskers, clowns, or party entertainers.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of balloon modelling are unknown, but it is thought to have originated from early magicians who would entertain their audiences with seemingly magical feats of balloon manipulation.
Techniques[edit | edit source]
There are several techniques in balloon modelling: the most common are the lock twist and the fold twist. The lock twist is the fundamental twist from which many other balloon modelling techniques are based. The fold twist is similar to the lock twist, but it is often used when tying together two lock twists.
Types of Balloons[edit | edit source]
The most common types of balloons for twisting are long balloons and round balloons. Long balloons are often used for making balloon animals, while round balloons are used for making balloon sculptures.
Events[edit | edit source]
There are several events and competitions for balloon modelling, such as the World Balloon Convention and the Balloon Modelling World Championship.
Health and Safety[edit | edit source]
There are health and safety considerations with balloon modelling. Balloons can be a choking hazard, and there are also concerns about latex allergies.
