Basal placentation
Basal Placentation is a type of placentation where the ovule is attached to the base of the ovary. This is a characteristic feature of certain plant families, such as the Ranunculaceae and Berberidaceae.

In basal placentation, the ovule is attached to the base of a simple or compound ovary. This is in contrast to other types of placentation, such as axile placentation, parietal placentation, free central placentation, and apical placentation, where the ovules are attached to other parts of the ovary.
Occurrence[edit | edit source]
Basal placentation is found in certain families of flowering plants, including the Ranunculaceae and Berberidaceae. It is also found in some species of the Rosaceae and Solanaceae families.
Significance[edit | edit source]
The type of placentation in a plant can have significant effects on the development of the fruit and seed. In basal placentation, the single ovule develops into a seed at the base of the ovary, which can influence the shape and size of the fruit.
