Bayamon

Bayamon is a municipality located in the northern coastal valley of Puerto Rico. It is the second most populous city in Puerto Rico, after San Juan. Bayamon is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Bayamon was founded by Juan Ramírez de Arellano in 1772. It was originally named after the local Taíno chief, Bahamon. The city has a rich history, with many historical sites such as the Casa del Rey, a Spanish colonial era building.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Bayamon is located in the northern part of Puerto Rico, and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, Toa Baja to the west, Guaynabo and San Juan to the east, and Aguas Buenas, Comerio, and Naranjito to the south. The city is crossed by several rivers including the Rio Bayamon and the Rio Hondo.

The economy of Bayamon is diverse, with sectors such as retail, healthcare, and education providing many jobs. The city is home to several shopping centers, hospitals, and universities, including the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon.

Bayamon is known for its rich culture, with many festivals and events held throughout the year. The city is also home to several museums, such as the Museo de Arte de Bayamon and the Museo Francisco Oller.

Bayamon is a major center for sports in Puerto Rico. The city is home to the Bayamon FC, a professional soccer team, and the Vaqueros de Bayamon, a professional basketball team. The city also has several sports facilities, including the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium and the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum.

Bayamon is served by several major highways, including the PR-2, PR-5, and PR-22. The city also has a public transportation system, which includes the Bayamon Urban Train.
