Belmont University is a private Christian university located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1890, it has grown to become one of the largest Christian universities in the United States, known for its strong programs in music, business, and health sciences.

Belmont University was originally established as the Belmont College for Young Women by Susan L. Heron and Ida B. Hood. The college was built on the site of the former Belmont Mansion, the antebellum home of Adelicia Acklen, one of the wealthiest women in the United States at the time. In 1951, the college merged with Ward-Belmont College, a similar institution, and became coeducational in 1952.

In 1991, the institution was renamed Belmont University to reflect its expanded academic offerings and university status. Since then, Belmont has continued to grow, adding new programs and facilities to meet the needs of its students.

Belmont University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across its various colleges and schools. These include the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Sciences and Mathematics, the Jack C. Massey College of Business, the College of Music and Performing Arts, and the College of Health Sciences and Nursing.

The university is particularly renowned for its Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, which is considered one of the top programs in the country for students pursuing careers in the music industry. Belmont's School of Pharmacy and School of Law are also highly regarded.
