Belpaoviridae

Belpaoviridae is a family of viruses in the order Picornavirales. The family consists of a single genus, Bellevirus, which in turn contains a single species, Bellevirus bellevirus. The viruses in this family have positive-sense, single-stranded RNA genomes, and are non-enveloped. The genome is not segmented.

Taxonomy

The family Belpaoviridae is part of the order Picornavirales, which also includes the families Picornaviridae, Secoviridae, Comoviridae, Dicistroviridae, Iflaviridae, Marnaviridae, and Sequiviridae. The family Belpaoviridae contains a single genus, Bellevirus, which contains a single species, Bellevirus bellevirus.

Structure

Viruses in Belpaoviridae are non-enveloped, with icosahedral and spherical geometries. The diameter is around 30 nm. Genomes are linear and non-segmented, around 7.4 kb in length.

Life Cycle

Viral replication is cytoplasmic. Entry into the host cell is achieved by attachment of the virus to host receptors, which mediates endocytosis. Replication follows the positive stranded RNA virus replication model. Positive stranded RNA virus transcription is the method of transcription. The virus exits the host cell by lysis, and viroporins. Humans and plants serve as the natural host.
