Benjamin Guinness, 3rd Earl of Iveagh (July 22, 1937 – June 18, 1992) was an Irish businessman and philanthropist. He was the great-grandson of Arthur Guinness, the founder of the Guinness Brewery.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Benjamin Guinness was born on July 22, 1937, in Dublin, Ireland. He was the eldest son of Arthur Guinness, 2nd Earl of Iveagh, and his wife, Lady Isabel Crichton-Stuart. He attended Eton College in England and later studied at Trinity College, Dublin.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his education, Guinness joined the family business, Guinness Brewery. He worked in various roles within the company, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the brewing industry. In 1967, he became the chairman of Guinness Brewery, following the death of his father.

Under Guinness' leadership, the company expanded its operations and became one of the largest and most successful breweries in the world. He introduced innovative marketing strategies and successfully promoted Guinness as a global brand. During his tenure, the company also diversified its product range and ventured into other sectors, such as food and beverages.

Apart from his business ventures, Guinness was also actively involved in philanthropic work. He established the Iveagh Trust, a charitable organization that aimed to provide affordable housing for the working class in Dublin. He also supported various educational and cultural initiatives in Ireland.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

In 1963, Benjamin Guinness married Miranda Daphne Jane Smiley, with whom he had four children. The couple divorced in 1984. In 1987, he married Clare Hazell, with whom he had two children.

Benjamin Guinness, 3rd Earl of Iveagh, left a lasting legacy through his contributions to the brewing industry and his philanthropic endeavors.
