Her parents, both involved in the arts, encouraged their daughters to pursue education and intellectual fulfillment. Groult initially embarked on a career in teaching and journalism before fully dedicating herself to writing.
Groult's literary debut came later in her life, a fact she often attributed to the societal expectations that prioritized her roles as a wife and mother over her professional aspirations. Another significant work, La Part des choses (The Share of Things), further explores the dynamics of gender and power relations.
Groult's autobiographical works, such as Mon évasion (My Escape), provide a personal look into her development as a feminist thinker and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated society. Through her writing, Groult sought to empower women to challenge societal norms and to assert their rights and identities.
