Bertrand Serlet

Bertrand Serlet is a French computer scientist and software engineer, best known for his work at Apple Inc. where he served as Senior Vice President of Software Engineering. He was instrumental in the development of Mac OS X, the operating system for Apple's Macintosh computers.

Serlet was born in France and completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Paris. He then moved to the United States to pursue his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University, where he focused on operating systems and networking.

After completing his Ph.D., Serlet joined Xerox PARC, a renowned research center in Palo Alto, California. At Xerox PARC, he worked on various projects related to operating systems and networking.

In 1997, Serlet joined Apple Inc., where he worked closely with Steve Jobs and other key figures in the company. He played a crucial role in the development of Mac OS X, leading the software engineering team responsible for the operating system. His contributions to Mac OS X and other Apple software products have had a significant impact on the technology industry.

In 2011, Serlet left Apple to co-found Upthere, a cloud services company. He served as the CEO of Upthere until it was acquired by Western Digital in 2017.
