From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Betty Crocker Kitchens is a brand name and a fictional character used in advertising campaigns for food and recipes. Today, Betty Crocker is a cultural icon, as well as brand name and trademark of American multinational company General Mills.

History[edit | edit source]

The name Betty Crocker was created to personalize responses to consumer inquiries. The surname "Crocker" was chosen to honor William G. Crocker, a director of Washburn Crosby Company, and "Betty" was chosen because it was viewed as a cheery, all-American name. The character was originally created by a home economist and experienced executive, Marjorie Husted, who also wrote the voice of Betty Crocker for many years.

Betty Crocker Kitchens[edit | edit source]

The Betty Crocker Kitchens, where all Betty Crocker recipes are tested and perfected, are located in the General Mills corporate offices in Golden Valley, Minnesota. The kitchens are divided into multiple sections, each specializing in a different area of food preparation. The kitchens are not open to the public, but they are occasionally featured in media coverage.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Betty Crocker has had a significant impact on American cooking and domestic life. The brand and character have been used in multiple advertising campaigns, including radio, television, and print. The Betty Crocker Cookbook, first published in 1950, has become a staple in American kitchens, with more than 75 million copies sold.
