Bill Compton is a fictional character from the HBO television series True Blood, based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels by Charlaine Harris. He is portrayed by actor Stephen Moyer.
Character Overview[edit | edit source]
Bill Compton, also known as William Erasmus Compton, was born on April 9, 1835, and was turned into a vampire in 1865 by Lorena Krasiki. He is a former Confederate soldier who returns to his ancestral home in Bon Temps, Louisiana, after the invention of synthetic blood allows vampires to live openly among humans.
Role in True Blood[edit | edit source]
Bill Compton is introduced in the first episode of True Blood, titled "Strange Love". He quickly becomes romantically involved with Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress. Throughout the series, Bill's character evolves from a brooding vampire with a dark past to a complex figure involved in vampire politics.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Bill's primary romantic relationship is with Sookie Stackhouse, though he also has significant interactions with other characters such as Jessica Hamby, whom he turns into a vampire, and Eric Northman, a fellow vampire and sometimes rival.
Vampire Politics[edit | edit source]
Bill becomes deeply involved in vampire politics, eventually rising to the position of Vampire King of Louisiana. His political maneuvers and alliances are central to many of the show's plotlines.
Character Traits[edit | edit source]
Bill is often portrayed as a conflicted character, torn between his vampire nature and his desire to retain his humanity. He is characterized by his Southern gentlemanly demeanor, his sense of honor, and his protective nature towards Sookie.
Development and Reception[edit | edit source]
Bill Compton's character has been a subject of much discussion among fans and critics of True Blood. His complex personality and moral ambiguity have made him one of the show's most compelling characters.
