Bill Gates's house
Bill Gates's house, also known as Xanadu 2.0, is a large mansion in the side of a hill overlooking Lake Washington in Medina, Washington. The house is named after the fictional home of Charles Foster Kane, the title character of the film Citizen Kane. It is known for its advanced technology and its value, which is estimated to be over $127 million as of the last assessment.
Design and Features[edit | edit source]
Xanadu 2.0 encompasses more than 66,000 square feet of space. The house is noted for its design and the technology that is integrated into its operation, making it one of the most advanced residential compounds in the world. The design was a collaboration between the architectural firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and the interior designer Thierry W. Despont.
Technology[edit | edit source]
The house is equipped with state-of-the-art technology systems that automate lighting, temperature, security, and entertainment systems. Residents and visitors wear pins that interact with sensors located throughout the house; these sensors adjust the environment to the individual's preferences, such as changing the lighting or temperature in a room or displaying preferred artworks on high-definition monitors.
Sustainability[edit | edit source]
Despite its size, Xanadu 2.0 is designed with sustainability in mind. It is partially built into the earth, which helps with heating and cooling. The house also uses its natural surroundings to reduce heat loss and to cool the premises in an eco-friendly manner.
Amenities[edit | edit source]
The mansion features several amenities, including:
- A 60-foot swimming pool with an underwater music system
- A 2,500-square-foot gym
- A 1,000-square-foot dining room
- A library with domed reading room
- An artificial stream stocked with fish
- A cinema
Public and Media Attention[edit | edit source]
Bill Gates's house has attracted significant attention from the public and media due to its value, design, and the technology it incorporates. It has been featured in various technology and architecture magazines as a prime example of how technology can be integrated into personal living spaces for comfort, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Impact on Medina[edit | edit source]
The presence of Xanadu 2.0 has had a notable impact on the Medina area, contributing to its reputation as a home for high-net-worth individuals. The property taxes alone contribute significantly to the local economy.
