Bird Box (film)
Bird Box is a 2018 American post-apocalyptic horror thriller film directed by Susanne Bier, from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman. The film stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Danielle Macdonald, Sarah Paulson, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Machine Gun Kelly, BD Wong, and Pruitt Taylor Vince.

The story follows a woman, Malorie Hayes (Sandra Bullock), who, along with a pair of children, referred to simply as Boy and Girl, must make it through a forest and river blindfolded to avoid supernatural entities which cause people who look at them to commit suicide.

The film rights to Josh Malerman's novel were optioned by Universal Pictures in 2013, prior to the book's release. In 2017, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to the book and would develop the film, with Susanne Bier directing and Sandra Bullock starring.

Bird Box was released on Netflix on December 21, 2018. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for Sandra Bullock's performance but criticism for its narrative and character development.

The film was watched by 45 million Netflix accounts in its first week of release, making it one of the most-watched films on the platform at the time. Despite mixed reviews, it has gained a significant following and has been the subject of various internet memes and challenges.
