Black Sea Salmon (Salmo labrax) is a species of salmon found primarily in the Black Sea and its surrounding rivers. This species is notable for its adaptation to both fresh and saltwater environments, a trait that allows it to live a migratory lifestyle, similar to other salmon species. The Black Sea Salmon is of significant interest to both commercial fisheries and conservation efforts due to its limited distribution and the pressures it faces from overfishing, habitat loss, and pollution.

The Black Sea Salmon can be distinguished by its elongated body, large mouth, and silver color with a bluish tint on the back. Like other salmon species, they undergo significant physical changes during their spawning migrations, including changes in color and the development of a more pronounced jawline in males.

The natural habitat of the Black Sea Salmon includes the coastal waters of the Black Sea and the lower and middle reaches of rivers flowing into it. They have a preference for cold, clear waters, which are essential for spawning. The major rivers supporting Black Sea Salmon populations include the Danube, Dniester, and the Southern Bug.

The life cycle of the Black Sea Salmon is characterized by an anadromous pattern, where the fish are born in freshwater, migrate to the sea as juveniles, and return to freshwater to spawn. Spawning typically occurs from late autumn to early winter. After spawning, unlike Pacific salmon, Black Sea Salmon do not die and can spawn multiple times throughout their lives.

The Black Sea Salmon is considered vulnerable due to a combination of factors. Overfishing, both in the Black Sea and in the rivers during their spawning migration, has significantly reduced their numbers. Conservation efforts are focused on habitat restoration, the creation of fish passages in dams, and the enforcement of fishing regulations to ensure the species' survival.
