Black Flag is an American punk rock band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. The band was established by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter, and sole continuous member through multiple personnel changes in the band. They are widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands as well as one of the pioneers of post-hardcore.

In 1981, vocalist Henry Rollins joined the band, marking the beginning of a new era for Black Flag. Rollins' intense performances and dark lyrics helped to define the band's sound during this period.

In 2003, Black Flag reunited for a series of shows and has continued to perform sporadically since then.
