Blondie (confection)

A blondie or blonde brownie is a rich, sweet dessert bar. It is similar to the traditional chocolate brownie, but substitutes vanilla for the cocoa used in brownies, and contains brown sugar. Blondies are made from flour, brown sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla, and may also contain walnuts or pecans.

History[edit | edit source]

The exact origins of the blondie are unclear. However, it is generally believed that they were derived from the brownie, a dessert that has been popular in the United States since the late 19th century. The first known recipes for blondies date back to the 1940s.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

Blondies are made by combining melted butter with brown sugar, then adding eggs, vanilla, a pinch of salt, and baking powder. The mixture is then combined with flour and any additional ingredients such as nuts or chocolate chips. The batter is spread into a baking dish and baked until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are many variations of the blondie. Some recipes include white or dark chocolate chips, chopped nuts, toffee bits, or coconut. Others incorporate ingredients like peanut butter, cream cheese, or caramel sauce. Some versions are topped with a layer of chocolate ganache or a dusting of powdered sugar.
