Blu eCigs

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Blu eCigs is a brand of electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes, which are devices that vaporize a liquid solution to deliver nicotine to the user. The brand was founded in 2009 by Australian entrepreneur Jason Healy and is currently owned by Imperial Brands, a multinational tobacco company.

History[edit | edit source]

Blu eCigs was launched in 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina, by Jason Healy. The brand quickly gained popularity due to its innovative design and marketing strategies. In 2012, Lorillard Tobacco Company, the third largest tobacco company in the United States, acquired Blu eCigs for $135 million. This acquisition marked the first entry of a major tobacco company into the e-cigarette market.

In 2014, as part of a merger between Lorillard and Reynolds American, Blu was sold to Imperial Brands. The sale was a condition set by the Federal Trade Commission to prevent a monopoly in the e-cigarette market.

Products[edit | edit source]

Blu eCigs offers a range of products including disposable e-cigarettes, rechargeable e-cigarettes, and a variety of flavored e-liquid cartridges. The brand is known for its sleek design and the blue LED light at the end of the e-cigarette that lights up when the user takes a puff.

Health and safety concerns[edit | edit source]

Like all e-cigarettes, Blu eCigs have been subject to controversy and scrutiny regarding their health and safety. Critics argue that e-cigarettes, including Blu, may pose health risks to users due to the presence of nicotine and other potentially harmful chemicals in the e-liquid. However, proponents of e-cigarettes argue that they are a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes.

Regulation[edit | edit source]

In the United States, e-cigarettes are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In 2016, the FDA extended its regulatory authority to include e-cigarettes, requiring manufacturers to submit their products for review and approval.
