The company was originally named the Brenham Creamery Company and initially produced butter from excess cream brought in by local farmers. A few years later, the company began to produce ice cream and eventually changed its name to Blue Bell Creameries after the Texas Bluebell wildflower.

In 1911, the company decided to make ice cream and sold it in gallon containers to local neighbors. The company was renamed Blue Bell Creameries in 1930 after the Texas Bluebell wildflower, which blooms in the summer and is known for its resilience.

Blue Bell Ice Cream offers a variety of flavors, including classics like Homemade Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, and Cookies 'n Cream, as well as unique flavors like Pecan Pralines 'n Cream and Moo-llennium Crunch. The company also produces seasonal flavors and limited-edition products.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is distributed in several states across the southern and central United States. The company's distribution was initially limited to areas around Brenham, Texas, but has since expanded to include much of the southern and central United States.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
In 2015, Blue Bell Ice Cream was linked to a Listeria outbreak that resulted in several illnesses and three deaths. The company recalled all of its products and shut down production for several months to clean its facilities and implement new safety procedures.
