Bolton, Ontario

Bolton, Ontario is a community located in the town of Caledon, Ontario, in the Regional Municipality of Peel, within the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada.

Bolton was established in 1822 by James Bolton, who built a grist mill on the Humber River. This mill was the nucleus around which the settlement of Bolton grew. The town was formerly known as Bolton Mills until it was shortened to Bolton in the late 1850s.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Bolton is located in the southern part of the town of Caledon, on the Humber River. It is approximately 50 kilometers northwest of downtown Toronto. The community is located between the administrative cities of Brampton to the south and Orangeville to the north.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Bolton is the most populous community in the town of Caledon, and it is home to a diverse economy. The town's industrial sector, located in the South Hill area, includes manufacturing, construction, and warehousing businesses. The downtown area features a mix of retail and service businesses.

Education[edit | edit source]

Bolton is served by both the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. There are several public and Catholic elementary schools in Bolton, as well as two high schools: Humberview Secondary School and St. Michael Catholic Secondary School.

Recreation[edit | edit source]

Bolton offers a variety of recreational opportunities. The community is home to several parks, including the Bolton Mill Park, which features the historic Bolton Mill ruins. The Humber Valley Heritage Trail runs through Bolton, offering opportunities for hiking, cycling, and wildlife viewing.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Bolton is served by GO Transit, which provides bus service to Toronto and other communities in the Greater Toronto Area. The community is also located near Highway 50, which provides access to Brampton and other areas in the GTA.
