Border Breweries (Wrexham)
Border Breweries (Wrexham) was a prominent brewery located in Wrexham, Wales. Established in the early 20th century, it played a significant role in the local economy and the brewing industry in the region.
History[edit | edit source]
Border Breweries was founded in 1931 through the amalgamation of several smaller breweries in the Wrexham area. The brewery quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality beer and ale, becoming a staple in local pubs and establishments.
Products[edit | edit source]
The brewery was known for a variety of products, including:
These products were distributed widely across North Wales and parts of England, contributing to the brewery's growth and popularity.
Facilities[edit | edit source]
The main brewing facility was located in the heart of Wrexham, equipped with state-of-the-art brewing technology for its time. The brewery also had several pubs and taverns under its ownership, which helped in the direct distribution of its products.
Acquisition and Closure[edit | edit source]
In the late 20th century, Border Breweries faced increasing competition from larger national breweries. In 1984, the brewery was acquired by Marston's Brewery, a larger brewing company. Despite efforts to maintain the brand, the brewery was eventually closed in 1984, marking the end of an era for local brewing in Wrexham.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Although Border Breweries no longer exists, its legacy continues through the memories of its products and the impact it had on the local community. The site of the former brewery has since been redeveloped, but it remains a significant part of Wrexham's industrial heritage.
