Brad Robert Wenstrup (born June 17, 1958) is an American politician and physician serving as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 2nd congressional district. A member of the Republican Party, Wenstrup was first elected to Congress in 2012. Prior to his political career, he worked as a podiatrist and served as an officer in the United States Army Reserve.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Brad Wenstrup was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended St. Xavier High School, graduating in 1976. Wenstrup earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. He then pursued a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, graduating in 1985.

Medical career[edit | edit source]

After completing his medical education, Wenstrup began practicing as a podiatrist in Cincinnati. He established a successful private practice, focusing on foot and ankle surgery. Wenstrup's medical career was marked by his commitment to patient care and community service.

Military service[edit | edit source]

In 1998, Wenstrup joined the United States Army Reserve as a medical officer. He served in the Iraq War, where he was deployed as a combat surgeon from 2005 to 2006. During his service, Wenstrup was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge for his contributions to the military medical field. He continues to serve in the Army Reserve, holding the rank of colonel.

U.S. House of Representatives[edit | edit source]

Wenstrup entered politics in 2012, running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio's 2nd congressional district. He won the Republican primary by defeating incumbent Jean Schmidt, and subsequently won the general election. Since taking office, Wenstrup has been re-elected multiple times.

In Congress, Wenstrup has focused on issues such as healthcare reform, veterans' affairs, and national security. He has been an advocate for improving the healthcare system, drawing on his medical background to inform his policy positions.
