Bramble (cocktail)

The Bramble is a cocktail that was created in London during the mid-1980s by Dick Bradsell. It is a popular drink in the United Kingdom and has gained recognition worldwide.

History[edit | edit source]

The Bramble was first concocted in 1984 by Dick Bradsell, a renowned bartender and cocktail innovator. Bradsell was inspired by his childhood memories of blackberrying on the Isle of Wight. The name "Bramble" refers to the blackberry bush, known as a bramble bush.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

The Bramble is a gin-based cocktail that also includes lemon juice, simple syrup, and crème de mûre, a blackberry liqueur. The drink is typically garnished with a slice of lemon and a blackberry.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

To prepare a Bramble, gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup are shaken with ice, then strained into a glass filled with crushed ice. Crème de mûre is then drizzled over the top, creating a marbling effect. The cocktail is garnished with a slice of lemon and a blackberry.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are several variations of the Bramble, including the Raspberry Bramble, which substitutes crème de framboise for the crème de mûre, and the Strawberry Bramble, which uses strawberry liqueur instead of blackberry.
