British Orthodontic Society
British Orthodontic Society (BOS) is a professional organization that represents orthodontists and orthodontic professionals in the United Kingdom. The society was established with the aim of promoting the study and practice of orthodontics in the UK.
History[edit | edit source]
The British Orthodontic Society was formed in 1994 through the merger of five pre-existing orthodontic organizations: the British Society for the Study of Orthodontics, the Orthodontic Specialists Group, the Consultants and Specialists Group, the Community Group, and the University Teachers Group. The society's formation was driven by a desire to unify the various strands of orthodontic practice and research in the UK under a single umbrella organization.
Structure and Membership[edit | edit source]
The British Orthodontic Society is governed by a board of directors, which includes representatives from each of the society's constituent groups. Membership in the society is open to any individual who is involved in the practice or study of orthodontics, including orthodontic specialists, general dental practitioners, orthodontic therapists, and dental nurses.
Activities[edit | edit source]
The British Orthodontic Society undertakes a wide range of activities in pursuit of its mission to promote the study and practice of orthodontics. These include organizing conferences and seminars, publishing research in the field of orthodontics, and advocating for orthodontic professionals in discussions with government and regulatory bodies. The society also provides resources and support for its members, including continuing professional development opportunities and advice on clinical practice.
